NORTH DENVER MIRADRY
MiraDry is a safe, clinically proven, FDA-cleared solution for significantly reducing underarm sweat, for patients 18-years of age and older. It’s an outpatient procedure performed in office, and it doesn’t involve any surgical incisions or cuts. miraDry works by delivering precisely controlled electromagnetic energy to the underarm area, eliminating the underarm sweat glands.
Two procedures are typically recommended, 3 months apart, to maximize the quality and duration of results. Each appointment generally lasts about an hour.
miraDry is the only FDA-cleared procedure that provides a lasting reduction of underarm sweat in a completely non-invasive way. Other treatment options, including antiperspirants and toxins, aim to temporarily disable the sweat glands for varying lengths of time – requiring repeat treatments to maintain effectiveness. Other options involve surgery, which poses inherent risks.
Pre-procedure Patient Instruction
4-6 days BEFORE Procedure:
A few days before your treatment date, be sure to shave both underarms. There will be some new hair growth which will help identify the area for treatment. If you have forgotten to shave or have shaved the day of treatment we will reschedule your procedure date.
What to wear the DAY of the procedure:
Choose clothing that is easy to clean and has large armhole openings. For example, women could wear a camisole, tank top, or sports bra and men could wear a sleeveless shirt.
What to Expect:
Your procedure will last between 60 and 75 minutes. Please feel free to bring a portable music player and earphones to enjoy during this time. Be advised that after the procedure you will have swelling and redness in the treated area for a few days to a few weeks. Consistent repetitive icing (20 minutes on, 20 minutes off) and aspirin/ibuprofen can be used to minimize the swelling and discomfort some patients experience. Keep the treated area clean by washing with water and gentle liquid soap and wearing loose-fitting tops. Avoid any rigorous activity including heavy exercise for several days post-procedure. You should be able to return to normal activity within a few days.
What Is MiraDry?
MiraDry is a quick, non-invasive, FDA-approved procedure which provides lasting and immediate results for excessive underarm sweat.
What Is The Procedure Like?
Local anesthesia is administered to the underarms prior to the procedure for comfort. The MiraDry handpiece is placed on each of the underarms and delivers energy to the treatment area which eliminates the sweat glands. Multiple placements of the MiraDry handpiece allows for a customized procedure to ensure maximum results. The in-office procedure generally lasts about one hour.
How Does MiraDry Work?
The MiraDry system delivers energy non-invasively to the region where sweat glands reside to eliminate them completely. Results are lasting since sweat glands don’t regenerate.
What Results Can I Expect?
In a recent clinical study, dramatic and immediate results were recorded with an average sweat reduction of 82%. As with any medical procedure, results will vary by person. For best results we recommend two procedures spaced three months apart.
Is There Any Downtime?
Most patients can return to normal activities or work right after treatment and resume exercise within several days. Slight tenderness may be present in the treatment area.
Is The Procedure Painful?
For comfort, local anesthesia is administered to the underarm prior to the procedure and there is little to no pain for most patients.
What Are Typical Side Effects?
Typical side effects include localized soreness and/or swelling, which generally clear up within a few weeks. MiraDry has a strong safety record, however, as with any medical procedure there are risks which your technician is happy to discuss with you during a complimentary consultation.
How Is MiraDry Different From Other Treatment Options?
Only MiraDry provides a lasting solution with a non-invasive procedure, whereas other options temporarily disable sweat glands or involve surgery which contains inherent risks.
Don’t I Need My Underarm Sweat Glands?
Your body contains over 4 million sweat glands and only 2% of those are located in the underarms. Eliminating the underarm sweat glands will not affect your body’s ability to cool itself or cause compensatory perspiration.
Who Is MiraDry For?
Anyone who is diagnosed with axillary hyperhidrosis, bothered by their underarm sweat, is frequently re-applying antiperspirant, or is frustrated and embarrassed by underarm sweat outbreaks and ruining clothes.
