The Bellus SkinPen® microneedling device is used to stimulate your skin’s natural ability to repair itself. Thousands of precise micro-injuries are created in the dermis, automatically triggering new collagen synthesis without causing scar tissue formation. Microneedling requires little to no downtime and is ideally performed in a series of treatments, spaced 4 weeks apart for optimal results.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Microneedling work?

Microneedling allows the skin’s natural self-repair process by creating new collagen and elastin through microchannels in the skin. During the short downtime, the skin will quickly see improvements in tone and texture and overall appearance. This happens through the body’s quick healing response to rush your own natural growth factors to the thousands of microchannels to heal them quickly with new collagen.

What are the benefits?

Microneedling procedures reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, large pores, lax skin, and stretch marks and will improve the appearance of acne scars and surgical scars while adding collagen and elastin to give a rejuvenated correction to tired skin. Whether looking for correction or a refreshed appearance microneedling can address all needs.

Who is a candidate?

Anyone who is looking to refresh their skin or anyone seeking improvement in the appearance of a scar, stretch mark, large pores or fine to coarse wrinkles. Microneedling can be safely performed on all types of skin.

Where can the Microneedling be performed on the body?

Microneedling is customizable with variable needle depth allowing for treatment of various parts of the body, including the face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back. Any scars must be at least one year old before starting the correction process with microneedling.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure will take one hour of your time, the first 30 minutes will be used to numb the area prior to treatment, and another 30 minutes to treat the area thoroughly. Add an additional 30 minutes if multiple areas are desired in one sitting.

Does the Microneedling procedure hurt?

The unique design of Bellus SkinPen allows for personalized settings, which makes the treatment very comfortable for most. Topical numbing cream can be applied to make the treatment more comfortable for deeper treatments.

When will I see results?

Many patients notice healthier looking skin immediately. However, the natural repair process of your own skin continues to progress over the course of several weeks. Keep in mind any collagen remodeling process takes place over a length of time. The damage that has occurred over an extensive period of time won’t disappear immediately. You may not see the final result for up to 3-6 months following your final session. Individual results will vary.

How many procedures are recommended?

The number of procedures will be determined by your skin care professional based on your individual procedure goals and the health of your skin. Most patients looking to refresh and rejuvenate their skin should receive a series of 3 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart. Those looking for a more aggressive correction of scars, large pores, and coarser wrinkles should plan on a series of 6 treatments spaced every 4 weeks. Your provider will develop a maintenance plan tailored to your needs.

Can I wear make-up immediately following a procedure?

Patients typically can resume their normal skincare and makeup regimen 3 to 4 days following their Microneedling procedure depending on the area and type of treatment performed.

Is there anyone who should not use Microneedling?

Anyone who has a history of keloid scarring, scleroderma, collagen vascular diseases, cardiac abnormalities, hemorrhagic disorder or dysfunction, or any active bacterial or fungal infection. Anyone who is being seen by a physician for any autoimmune disorder whose treatment is daily Anti-Inflammatory medications may not have the results desired. In order for the body to produces the collagen to needed to see results, the inflammatory response is necessary.

The treatment area will feel tight and dry in the first 48 hours and post care instructions for proper product application will be provided. Individual results may vary; some may experience light to moderate flaking on day 3 to 5.
